Philanthropist and animal lover Wallis Annenberg passed away this morning. She is survived by her four children, Lauren Bon, Charles Weingarten, Roger Weingarten, Gregory Weingarten, and five grandchildren, Dorian, Maya, Lily. I did the tree of her father many years ago for Geneastar. Her parents were Walter Annenberg and his first wife, Bernice Veronica Dunkelman. She had a brother named Roger who predeceased her. Recent controversy has arisen regarding actor, comedian, television host Whoopi Goldberg aka Caryn / Caren Elaine Johnson, Judaism and possible antisemitism. I believed her when she stated she was Jewish many years ago. While doing her family tree a few years ago I did not discover any Jewish roots or ancestors. More recently it was discovered that her use of the "Goldberg" name was more of a joke so I wrote it off as such.

Whoopi was born Caren** Elaine Johnson in 1955 in New York City. Her parents were Robert James Johnson Jr 1926-1993 and Emma J Harris 1931 -2010. She had a brother Clyde K Johnson 1949-2015. She's been married three times to Alvin Martin 1952-2006, David Edward Claessen 1959 from the Netherlands and Lyle Trachtenberg. With Alvin Martin she has a daughter Alexandria Martin. Whoopi's entire family came from the south. I see no Jewish ancestors or blood relatives. I see no evidence that Whoopi converted or practiced Judaism. Her father was a Baptist Rev.
I saw what Whoopi said about the Jews and Hitler on The View. Yes, Jews have light skin but they're not "white." Hitler thought Jews were "an inferior race." Hitler was a white supremacist who was racist against Jews. That is why he killed them.
I didn't see Whoopi's jokes against Jewish American Princesses (JAPs). I grew up in Beverly Hills and most of my friends were Jewish. I heard all the JAP jokes way back in the day. I haven't heard them in a long time.
I don't agree with what Whoopi said about Jews or JAPs. I think it's wrong for her to have stated that she was Jewish when she's not. I don't know if she's antisemitic but what she said was wrong and beyond concerning.

Her parents were Nathan I Nathan born 1927 and Hope Ann Sprung Nathan born 1936 Michigan and died 2018 in Washington, D.C. Hope's family was from Russia and Finland.

With what she has termed her “audaciously deceptive” appropriation of an Afro-Caribbean identity, she has betrayed the trust of countless current and former students, fellow scholars of Africana Studies, colleagues in our department and throughout the historical discipline, as well as community activists in New York City and beyond. The discipline of history is concerned with truth telling about the past. With her conduct, Dr. Krug has raised questions about the veracity of her own research and teaching. Accordingly, the department calls upon Dr. Krug to resign from her position as associate professor of History at GW. Failing that, the department recommends the rescinding of her tenure and the termination of her appointment."
Jessica Krug's sister in law today stated that she is white white. The family did not know she pretended to be black. Family claims to have been estranged.
This is a little odd. The brother is a registered sex offender with his mugshot, crimes and home address listed on the internet. What Jessica did was bad but worse than a man who sexually assaulted a child?

Turns out Jessica Krug told people she grew up poor in foster care, was abused, homeless...in New York. She actually went to a very expensive college prep high school in Kansas City, Missouri.
UPDATE: Turns out Jessica Krug's colleagues were going to out her to the public. That is the alleged reason why she came forward with her mea culpa. George Washington University is investigating the situation. I assume she will be fired.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the war in Vietnam. Mr. Krug’s parents owned the Eastside Market for over 30 years. He was a former member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue.
Mr. Krug was preceded in death by both of his parents and ex-wife Sherry M. Krug. Mr. Krug is survived by his son: Joshua William Krug and his wife Amy Marie Krug of Las Vegas; step-grandson: Adam P. O’Reilly of Clarksville, Tennessee; his daughter: Jessica Ann Krug of the Bronx, New York; cousin: Evan Jacobs, his wife Mary Jacobs, and sister: Bernice Jacobs of Memphis, Tennessee. His uncle Leonard and Aunt Cathy Krug of Columbia, Kentucky; along with cousins also survive. He was a kind, loving person that enjoyed life and will surely be missed."

Looks pretty similar if the person had a rough life. They are short like Jess with hazel eyes, same nose, ears, mouth. I'm not going to make that call yet. I only wanted a pic so we can see that she looks like her brother i.e. white. Okay, his address as a registered sex offender matches the parents and wife's name. It appears to be the same person.
